The Indianapolis Steering Systems Plant - Steering our way into the future!

The Indianapolis Steering Systems Plant opened in 1957 under Two Million Square feet of floor space on a 153 acre site. We have been a Q1 supplier to our customers since 1989. We have been the recipients of many awards for our quality. We won the Ford Customer Driven Quality Award in 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1997, 1998 and 1999. We won the Visteon Customer Driven Award in 2001. In February 1998 we became certified for QS-9000 and we recertified in August of 2000. We had the honor of meeting the ISO-16949 certification in January 2003 and we met the requirements for ISO 14001 in June of 2002. As can be seen by our credentials we take quality serious!

We also take our safety serious and we were rewarded for that in 2002 by being selected as Visteon's Bob Womac Safety Award. We are are proud of our plant, our achievements and look forward to many more in our future. Click the links below to learn more about the products and services at our plant.

Our Plant is capable of being fully self-sufficient.

We have an on site Laboratory with a Gage Layout, Full Metrology Lab, Chemical Lab, Contamination Lab, and Scanning Electron Microscope. The Lab is working towards certification for ISO-17025.

We have an on site Prototype Build Shop that benefits our plant in respect that the Prototype hourly personnel and Engineers can familiarize themselves with our manufacturing processes. This work can be done in Prototype and may not be feasible for the production environment. Another benefit is the link between the Manufacturing Engineering and the Manufacturing processes used when possible for Prototype parts.

We have an on site Heat Treatment facility. We can perform our own induction hardening and we have two types of furnaces. We have Carbonizing and Tempering Furnaces and an on site Heat Treat Engineer.

We have an on site Warranty Analysis where our technicians are familiar with the manufacturing process that provides for better problem analysis and causes. Technicians and Manufacturing being collocated provides better root cause analysis.

We have an on site Tool Room and Cutter Grind area. Both areas contribute to our manufacturing process in keeping our machinery up and running more efficiently. Providing the company enhanced ability to quickly implement many "hot" changes to tooling, fixtures and/or gages.

We have an Hourly Liaison Team that is responsible for providing a link in our customer processes and the effects on the Indianapolis Plant. Our Liaisons supports new model launches, product changes and model changes. They are also a great source of problem solving for our customer and our plant. The Liaisons provide an immediate ability to contain potential issues.

When you add all these support groups together, they truly make the ACH Indianapolis Steering Facility an innovative leader in the steering industry.
